Donald Andrew Bennett
Donald Andrew Bennett had been wanted since he allegedly walked away from a Tillamook Forest prison work crew at the end of June.
Gresham police said the incident started when a woman reported that a burglary suspect had entered her Troutdale home and stolen her purse with the car keys inside.
The woman told police the suspect fled her home and stole her car and headed west on SE Stark Street.
A Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputy located the stolen car and began to pursue the driver, later identified as Bennett.
Officers from the Gresham Police department and the Portland Police Bureau also joined in the pursuit.
Bennett eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a hedge at 19725 SE Stark Street in Gresham and ran from the scene, police said.
A K-9 officer was able to track Bennett hiding a tree not far from the crash site.
During the pursuit, a Gresham police officer and two females in another car sustained minor injuries. All were treated at a nearby hospital.
Police said Bennett, who has ties to the European Kindred White Supremacist gang escaped from the Santiam Correctional work crew on June 29th.
Bennett was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail. His charges include a no bail warrant for escape, burglary, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony and misdemeanor elude, criminal mischief, reckless driving and reckless endangering.
He will make his first court appearance on Monday.
