Child drowns in Columbia River

A five-year-old boy drowned Saturday in the Columbia River at Dibblie Beach in Rainier.

Sakai Dillard was fishing with his father and family friends when he ran onto a jetty and fell into the water.
Dillard surfaced once and then disappeared. His father dove in after him but was unable to find him.
Also: Teen drowns in Umpqua River
Columbia County deputies, the Coast Guard and the Cowlitz County Dive Team searched for Dillard. The Coast Guard brought in a boat and a helicopter. Divers also searched the waters.
A diver found Dillard’s body at about 5 p.m. near the area where he was last spotted.
Dillard and his family were visiting from the Seattle area.
