DAMASCUS, Ore. -- Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for attempted murder after he tried to shoot his friend and the friend's girlfriend Tuesday following a drunken group brawl, authorities said.

The incident came on the heels of an alcohol-fueled fight at Riverside Park earlier Tuesday evening, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Victim Dennis Vanmaldeghem and suspect Marcus Beyer were at the park when Vanmaldeghem was bitten by a dog, said Detective Jim Strovink. Apparently, Vanmaldeghem and Beyer disagreed about how the dog bite should be resolved and chaos ensued.

“They were all drunk and there was a dog fight that erupted and then something ignited other fights,” Strovink said.Vanmaldeghem called authorities to report that at least 25 people were fighting at the park.

The alleged victim and suspect are neighbors and friends. In fact, Vanmaldeghem claims he is close friends with Beyer.

Deputies received a report of shots fired at a residential address -- 17590 SE Troge Road, in Damascus -- a few hours after the fight at the park.

Strovink said the shooting was a “continuation from the incident that occurred earlier at Riverside Park.”

Just before the shooting, Vanmaldeghem’s girlfriend stopped by Beyer’s house to pick up some personal belongings she had left there.

While she was there, Beyer went outside armed with a shotgun and later fired at least twice at Kelly Ebon once she was inside her car, according to Strovink.

Ebon fled unharmed.

While Ebon was driving home, Vanmaldeghem arrived at Beyer’s place and was nearly shot in the driveway as Beyer fired his gun repeatedly, Strovink said.

Vanmaldeghem was not hit.

A responding patrol sergeant found two loaded shotguns, in addition to spent shell casings inside and outside of Beyer’s residence.

"He was just like shooting up into the air, trying to get me off his property, I guess. I don't really remember, at all," Vanmaldeghem said.

Beyer was taken to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Jail and lodged on charges including attempted murder, assault, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.

Strovink said Vanmaldeghem and Beyer have a history of “going after eachother.”
