The Oregon Wing of the Civil Air Patrol says the experienced, retired airline pilot had been making local practice flights from the Aurora Airport -- when he failed to return. There has been no cell phone or radio contact with the pilot.

Eight planes and 40 searchers on foot were out helping look for the missing Piper Cub single-engine plane over the weekend.

The 68-year-old pilot's name has not yet been released, at the request of family members.

Officials are asking anyone who may have seen or heard a single engine aircraft flying low or perhaps sounding like it may be in distress to call Civil Air Patrol mission base at the Aurora State Airport (at 503-678-1889).
