Milwaukie man drowns at Oxbow Park on Sandy River
03:43 PM PDT on Wednesday, July 9, 2008
A 19-year-old swimming with friends Tuesday was unable to cross the Sandy River and drowned, authorities said.
Friends of Sean Chancellor, of Milwaukie, looked for him for at least 20 minutes before kayakers were able to locate him and get him to shore.
The kayakers performed CPR until medical and fire crews arrived around 7 p.m. All attempts to revive Chancellor were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drowning happened one-quarter-mile upstream from the Oxbow Park boat ramp.
