A fire caused by fireworks destroyed a Sellwood home, part of a holiday marred by brawls and fires.

Deputies responded to one fatal accident, investigated 29 other crashes that resulted in injuries and assisted other agencies with eight more accidents.

They also arrested 39 people for driving while under the influence of intoxicants and made 164 other arrests, including 40 people arrested on a variety of felony charges.

Marine deputies working the state's waterways also stayed busy. Three boating accidents in Multnomah County resulted in injuries and huge unruly crowds in Clackamas County resulted in the closing of a county park.
