A random dumpster find could have been an open invitation for identity theft.

KGW Newschannel 8 alerted investigators after finding a dumpster overflowing with confidential records, including copies of social security cards and even driver licenses.

Only on 8: W-2's found in dumpster

An anonymous caller said to check out the open dumpster behind the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in Beaverton.

Inside were boxes and boxes of confidential employment records left in the unlocked dumpster. Anyone could get their hands on sensitive tax records.

The dozens of employee files included photographs, copies of social Security cards, drivers' licenses and even health plan information.

We also found hundreds of old corporate checks from the restaurant.

Police warned that it doesn't get any easier for ID thieves.

The company said they did not know how the records got there and would start an investigation.

Officials told KGW that it was not a common practice, and that usually the records were stored off-site in a secure location.

At the urging of detectives, workers removed the documents to have them shredded.
