The first incident started at 10:35 p.m. after a citizen reported that over 20 gang members were fighting at the corner of Township Road and South Redwood Street.

Officers found a large number of Sureno gang members standing in the middle of the street.

“One gang member armed with a knife ran from arriving officers,” said Canby Police Officer Chris Mead.

Police were not able to find that suspect.

“The remaining gang members disregarded the officer's orders to leave the area and became very verbal and belligerent,” Mead said.

Officers took seven juvenile Sureno gang members into custody. They were charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer.

Two adult gang members, Jose Enrique Perez and Hector Montoya-Gutierrez, were also arrested and face the same charges. They were both lodged at Clackamas County Jail.

At 10:50 p.m., Canby officers in the same area received a report of another gang fight and similar events ensued.

Officers found members of the Norteno gang standing in the middle of Township Road. When police told the gang members to move from the street, they began fighting with the officers.

As police attempted to take some gang members into custody, other gang members started grabbing the officers. Additional Officers from the Canby Police Department, Molalla Police Department, and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Department arrived to assist.

Police learned that the Norteno gang members had attempted to get into a Sureno gang member’s nearby house located and may have been armed with a bat.

Officers arrested five suspects. They were identified as Jonathan Saucedo-Jimenez, Jobani Jimenez-Saucedo, Mario Camarena-Zamora, Omar Camarena and Mayolo Ortega-Ramirez.

They were lodged at the Clackamas County Jail.

“No officers or citizens were injured during this very dangerous situation. There were hundreds of families attending the General Canby Days Fireworks Show while these incidents were occurring,” Mead said.
