MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -- A 22-year-old McMinnville man shot his father in the head before turning the gun on himself over the Fourth of July weekend, according to a medical examiner's ruling.

The bodies of Thomas Marshall, 58, and his son Sean, 22, were found in an apartment on July 4.

Sean Marshall was a 2005 McMinnville High School graduate described as an avid skateboarder and musician. His father would have turned 59 Monday. Police told the McMinnville News-Register both lived in the apartment.

"The apparent firearm used in this incident and other evidence found in the apartment support the medical analysis," police said in a prepared statement.
