SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Police in Springfield say a wheelchair-bound man is dead after being hit by a car last night.

The 46-year-old victim had been drinking, police say, and rode directly into the street, into the path of an oncoming car.

The man was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he died a few hours later, police said.

The victim's name will be released after his family is notified of his death.
