Caleb Freeman was the only person in the home who didn’t escape the fire, firefighters said. According to Springfield police, two other people were burned, possibly while trying to save the boy.
Firefighters heard fireworks going off when they arrived at the home on North Clover Leaf Loop. They went inside and found a fire burning in the closet of a second floor bedroom. That’s where they also found the victim.
The Oregon State Police Crime Lab was called to the scene to investigate. It was trying to determine the exact cause of the fire.
