VANCOUVER, Wa. -- A man died early Friday in downtown Vancouver when his speeding pickup spun and crashed into two trees. John Ray Emerson, 49, of Vancouver died at the scene.
Police say the pickup was westbound on E. Mill lain Blvd. at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate the gradual curve at E. 15th Street. The truck spun and crossed the road, colliding with two trees and two city parking meters. One meter was reportedly hit so hard, parts of the meter actually flew into a Kinko's store's window.
The force of the collision partially ejected the driver through the front passenger window. The pickup rolled and came to rest on its passenger side, pinning the driver under it.
Police say high speed was a factor in the collision.
Emerson was pronounced dead at the scene.
