MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Officers broke down a door to rescue a woman from a house on fire in McMinnville Wednesday and now investigators think her boyfriend may have been trying to burn her.
Larry Warren Barnard, 38, was arrested for arson and assault following the fire. Police found him across the street and said he also had burns on his body.
His girlfriend, Krista Suzanne Wiegel was flown in a LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Hospital where she was listed in critical condition with “extensive burns” at last report.
Barnard was transported by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center.
Firefighters arrived shortly after police and managed to put out the blaze. The State Fire Marshal's Office, McMinnville Fire Department, and McMinnville Police Department were working together in the investigation.
Police said both Wiegel and Barnard were listed as living at the home at 1187 SW Marie Drive in McMinnville.
