A Washington County woman was sentenced for animal neglect in the case of a starving greyhound.
According to the Oregon Humane Society, someone found the dog in April, eating cherry blossom petals near a pet supply store in Southwest Portland.
Neighbors told the woman who found the dog where it was from and OHS was called in. Investigators said ‘Aqua’ the greyhound weighed only eight pounds. Two other dogs and a cat were also found at the home and voluntarily surrendered by the owner.

The owner was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty. She will pay $1,700 in fines and restitution and serve two years of formal probation. She was also barred from owning or caring for animals for five years and must undergo mental health evaluation and treatment.
"This case illustrates that animal neglect is a serious crime," OHS Humane Investigator Austin Wallace said. "To simply starve an animal to death in Oregon is not acceptable and is against the law."
Aqua and the other animals were taken in by new owners and fully recovered, OHS said.
