Grandfather and uncle cited after child found wandering in Salem

SALEM, Ore. – A grandfather and uncle of a Salem toddler were charged with criminal mistreatment after the girl was found wandering in a neighborhood Wednesday night.
A neighbor found the girl near 24rd St SE near Adams St SE around 9 p.m. Officers were called and learned the child had been at the home on 24th St SE after being dropped of by her mother.
Investigators said the uncle and grandfather were in charge of watching over the girl when she was able to slip out of the house.
Police said they also smelled burning marijuana and seized a small amount of pot and paraphernalia.
Department of Human Services was called in and returned the child to her mother.
Salem Police charged 38-year-old Terry Daugherty and 19-year-old Steven Tyler Pearson with reckless endangerment and criminal mistreatment.
