Police say the man was pinned between this backhoe's stabilizing landing gear and its bucket.

Oregon State Police says the Lasley, employed by Oregon Mainline Paving Inc., was helping other workers moving concrete jersey barriers from the southbound lanes of Interstate 205.

Lasley was standing behind a backhoe when he set a heavy metal device down on a floor pedal that controlled the backhoe’s rear bucket.

The bucket arm then quickly swung and pinned him to the backhoe’s stabilizing landing gear. The backhoe’s operator saw what happened and moved the bucket arm to released the pressure.

Tualaltin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the call about 9:35 p.m. Crews were getting Lasley ready to be air lifted when he died.

An investigator with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration also showed up at the scene to investigate.
