LEBANON, Ore. – More than 8,000 poppy plants were destroyed by police after someone tipped them off to the illegal crop in Linn County.

Linn County Sheriffs

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller said deputies raided the clear cut area near Berlin Road and McDowell Creek Road east of Lebanon Tuesday after over a month of surveillance.

It was the third such grow site deputies have found in the past three years.

The plant is used to make heroin and opium.

No suspects have been identified in the case and it remained under investigation.
