String of fires sparked on Mt. Tabor in SE PDX
09:09 AM PDT on Monday, July 2, 2007
Investigators were looking into a string of fires that burned Monday morning in and around Mt. Tabor Park.
By early Monday morning, the Portland Fire Bureau confirmed a total of six suspicious fires. The first of the fires started around 3:30 in the morning and ended with the sixth fire around 6 a.m.
A fire spokesperson said no homes or park buildings were damaged. Most of the fires burned brush, grass, or trees, but a children's tree house also burned.
NewsChannel 8 crews spotted several police officers patrolling Mt. Tabor Park looking or an individual or a group that may be responsible for the fires, but as of early Monday morning, they had not made any arrests.
Fire investigators said they may have a difficult time solving this case because there were no witnesses.
