WOODBURN, Ore. – An auctioneer was stabbed in Woodburn Tuesday, deputies said.
Marion County deputies were called to the Woodburn Auction Yard on South Pacific Highway after someone attacked auctioneer Chuck Boyce with a knife, slashing his throat.
Witness Andrew McGee said "(Boyce) missed the guy's bid or something and the guy got upset and the next thing we know he comes up . . . . grabbed him by the throat and slit it and took off the other way."
Boyce was taken to Emanuel Hospital by LifeFlight. He was listed in good condition Wednesday morning. A crowd of about 85 people was attending a lumber auction at the time and some tried to stop the suspect.
“I reached to grab him and I ran across the street and said mellow out and he kept running,” witness Mike Melbye said. “He stopped and said ‘get away,’ he pulled his knife and I said ’what’s wrong with you? It’s not worth it.”

Deputies said the suspect fled the scene and jumped a fence into the Shalimar mobile home park. A man was later taken into custody by police.
Officers found and arrested 22-year-old Jeremiah D. Thomasson, of Coos Bay. He was set to be charged with attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Investigators said more charges could be added.(KGW Reporter Anne Yeager contributed to this report)
