Teen swept down Sandy River presumed drowned

The search for a male teen swept down the Sandy River Saturday afternoon came to a close Sunday.

A Clackamas County Sheriff’s office spokesman said Patrick Monteith, 16, was swept away while he and three friends tried to cross the river Saturday afternoon. The boys were not wearing life jackets.
The water was 54 degrees.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Hood Land Fire and Sandy Fire responded to the scene Saturday.
Monteith’s three friends were rescued on Saturday. He is presumed drowned.
An Army National Guard helicopter flew over the area and ground crews spent hours looking for the boy without success. Crews continued their search for the missing teen until dark with canine and ground units Saturday and started again Sunday morning.
