Parents sue Astoria in shooting death of son
03:09 PM PDT on Wednesday, June 28, 2006
The parents of a man police officers shot and killed two years ago have sued the city of Astoria and two officers. Catherine and Douglas Pollock say officers Dave Logsdon and Paul Gillum subjected Douglas Eugene Pollock to unreasonable force. Their suit, filed June 14 in U.S. District Court, seeks an unspecified amount of damages. Police were called to the Pollock home on June 16, 2004, by a neighbor who said a man was severing a power line. Neighbors said Pollock's mother pleaded with police not to shoot her son because he was a paranoid schizophrenic who was not violent. Astoria Police Chief Rob Deu Pree said Douglas Pollock, 41, hit Logsdon twice with a baseball bat and was about to hit him again when Logsdon shot him. Deu Pree said the two officers were put on administrative leave, cleared and returned to work.
