PORTLAND, Ore. -- A convicted thief was recaptured after escaping an inmate work crew in a City of Portland truck in North Portland Wednesday.

Portland police

It happened as the crew was working on N. Columbia Blvd.

Sgt. Brian Schmautz said 29-year-old Scotty Lee Jackson was working at the wastewater treatment facility when he disappeared before an inmate headcount.

A Woodburn police officer spotted him around 2 p.m. and made an arrest, police said.

Jackson was serving time for ID theft out of Clackamas County.

He has a history of ID theft, drugs, property crimes, attempt to elude and resisting arrest, but generally non-violent crimes, police said.
