A family of four was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Gresham Wednesday night, police said.
Sergeant Claudio Grandjean with Gresham police said police got a call about a three car wreck at the intersection of 201st and NE Halsey around 7 p.m.
According to witnesses, an SUV traveling westbound on Halsey with three occupants inside ran a red light and broad-sided a small compact blue car traveling Northbound on 201st.
Grandjean said inside the blue car was a family of four: a mom, dad, and two children in car seats.
All four were transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with serious injuries. The youngest child, four-month-old infant Yoana Sanchez Gil, suffered a skull fracture and serious brain injury, authorities said. The baby was in critical condition, police said Thursday afternoon.
Olivia Gil Marquez suffered head and side injuries. Luis Sanchez Olvera suffered possible broken ribs, and the second child, four-year-old Jasmine Sanchez Gil suffered a possible spleen injury.
The three people in the SUV fled the scene, according to police.
The driver of the SUV eventually came back and was arrested. He was identified as Israel Diaz Barajas. Barajas had outstanding warrants for his arrest, police said. Charges were pending.
The impact of the crash pushed the blue vehicle into a third vehicle. Grandjean said no one in that vehicle was injured.
