Ex-cop who groped woman could cost Portland $25,000
11:52 PM PDT on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
The city of Portland would pay $25,000 under a proposed settlement of a lawsuit brought by a woman who said a police officer reached down her pants and ordered her to lift her shirt and bra at a homeless camp two years ago.
Linda Wickerham said former Officer Matthew Kohnke claimed he wanted to search for drugs or weapons.
Kohnke resigned from the Portland Police Bureau last fall after he pleaded no contest to official misconduct. The charge stemmed from a separate allegation that he made inappropriate sexual comments to a woman when he was called to take a report of her missing cell phone.
The proposed settlement goes before the City Council this week.
