PORTLAND, Ore. -- A former deputy district attorney for Multnomah County faces possible prison time after being convicted of helping steal an elderly woman's home from her as she was dying.
A Multnomah County jury convicted Randy Richardson on one count of aggravated theft in the first degree by deception, and one count of obtaining the execution of a document by deception.

Clackamas County deputy district attorney Scott Healy, who prosecuted the case said: “It's extremely aggravated.”
Richardson was charged along with Eric Penn. Penn’s aunt had terminal cancer in July of 2006 and wished to die at home instead of the nursing facility where she was staying.
Healy said the aunt, Margaret Patton had brain cancer, was on morphine and had some dementia.
Healy said testimony showed Richardson and Penn tricked the aunt into signing over her house for no money to Penn in exchange for him taking her home from the facility.

The home was worth $224,500. Healy said it was pure deception.
“She didn’t even know what she was signing,” he said.
But instead of allowing the aunt to die at home, she was taken back to the nursing facility within 18 hours.
Meanwhile, Healy says the men -- now in control of the home -- tried to sell it, then rented it out.
Healy says the home was pillaged.
“The most offensive facts,” said Healy, “all of her personal belongings, furniture, clothes, jewelry, antiques, and family photographs were gone!” he said. “In six days they destroyed her entire life and the life of that family."
Margaret Patton died in August 2006.
The jury deliberated for two days before convicting both men.
Penn was taken into custody immediately because he has a previous criminal record.
Richardson was allowed to remain free on the condition he stop practicing law immediately.
Sentencing is July 10th at 1:30pm in Judge Michael McShane’s courtroom in Multnomah County.
Healy said he’ll ask for significant prison time for both men.
