Kelso police said the victim, 26, was stabbed in his torso, head and hands.
Alan Tritt found him bleeding on the front porch of his S. 13th Ave. home.
“I peeked through my blinds and oh boy,” said Tritt who initially thought a drunk person had passed out on his porch. “When I looked out and I saw the bloody t-shirt I was like, oh god. Hold on, I said, hold on. Help’s on the way.”
Tritt was too afraid to go outside, but he called 911 right away. “I hoped that he wasn’t gonna die, I really hoped not,” Tritt said. “He just said, God help me, God help me.”
The victim was transported to St. John Medical Center with life-threatening wounds. He told police that someone had stolen his car before paramedics took him away.
His vehicle was found on Wednesday, one block from the porch on which the victim had collapsed, police said. Police said there was no apparent connection to the victim and homeowner who found him.
He was recovering on Wednesday but not cooperating fully with police. Tritt said, he’s just glad that he was home to help.
“Dead, he’d be dead,” Tritt said. “If he hadn’t woke me up, I’d have seen his carcass right there and that would have scared the living heck out of me.”
The victim’s car was confiscated for investigation. Police said they are following leads and conducting interviews but still need the public’s help finding the suspect or suspects. Anyone with information on the crime was urged to contact Kelso police at 360-423-1270.
