Fifteen people injured in rollover crash on I-84

11:11 AM PDT on Monday, June 16, 2008

By ADRIANE HORNER, kgw.com Staff

A van full of farmworkers rolled over on I-84 near Boardman on Saturday afternoon.

Oregon State Police

Officers said that the van, driven by 44-year-old Abraham Rosas Vadovinos of Hermiston, was traveling eastbound on I-84 when the left rear tire blew out. Vadovinos over-corrected and lost control, causing the van to hit the center median and then flip.

At least 4 of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Police said there were eleven men and four women riding in the van at the time of the accident and none appeared to have been wearing seatbelts.

All of the van’s occupants were taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.

24-year-old Francisco Amberocio Geronimo, who suffered critical injuries in the crash, was later transferred by Life Flight to OHSU hospital in Portland.

Officers on scene said the van belongs to Moreno Labor Farms in Umatilla.

The driver was cited for unlawful operation of a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
