Here's the text of Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski's statement issued
to the Oregonian newspaper regarding his knowledge of Neil Goldschmidt's
sexual relationship with a teenage girl. The statement was provided to
kgw.com by the governor's press office:
"I would like to reiterate my comments of May 8, 2004 and May 20, 2004
regarding former Governor Neil Goldschmidt's disclosure that he had
sexual encounters with a young girl while he was mayor of Portland in
the 1970s.
I did not become aware of the allegations until the evening of May 5,
2004, when my chief of staff informed me that the media began asking
questions about the subject.
Until that time, I had no knowledge that Governor Goldschmidt had
sexually abused a 14-year-old girl, nor did I know of any subsequent
payments to her.
I still do not know her name, nor the names of her family members."
