Proud parents asked to limit limos for last day at Lake O schools

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- No rides in style for elementary kids in Lake Oswego.
Concerns about traffic prompted the district to send a letter to parents this year advising they not send limousines to pick up students on the last day of school.
That didn’t stop some.
One stretch Hummer was seen Thursday Lake Grove Elementary picking up about 14 students on their way to pizza and ice cream.
The driver did take into consideration the principal’s advice and parked down the street.
Lake Oswego School District spokesperson Nancy Duin said it hasn’t happened for about four years, but the principal Sara Deboy heard some parents were considering the idea this year.
She said the parking lot wasn’t big enough all the cars.
The letter read; “These last days of school are a wonderful time for celebrating, and the students are really enjoying all the events that are going on both inside and outside of school. Many parents are here to make those celebrations happen, and we appreciate the time to come together and recognize the achievements of our students … I am asking that you please refrain from sending limousines to school to pick up your children, as this has been a problem in the past. “
