DTV transition times set for Portland

01:15 PM PDT on Friday, June 12, 2009

By FRANK MUNGEAM, Kgw.com Staff

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland TV stations have officially set the times when they will permanently halt transmitting their analog television signals.

In Portland and across the country, the switch to DTV was set for Friday, June 12th. No more tests, no more delays.

Those who currently watch an analog TV signal will see nothing but a blank screen in place of their normal broadcasting when the Friday switch happens.

“Whether it’s families who simply have yet to purchase a converter box or apply for their coupon or it’s those who have already bought and installed their box, we expect thousands of confused and concerned residents contacting us this Friday,” said Daniel Lombardi, Portland DTV Coordinator for the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund. “We are preparing to handle hundreds of calls and visitors in the next few days, many of whom will be asking the question – why isn’t my television working?”

Below is the transition schedule for Portland stations on Friday, June 12th:

KGW 03:05:00

KATU 23:35:00

KOIN 07:25:00

KOPB-TV 01:05:00

KPTV 09:30:00

KPXG Transitioned already

KNMT Transitioned already

KRCW-TV 09:00:00

KPDX 09:30:00

Portland residents were urged to setup and test their converter box before Friday to ensure they are DTV ready.

Even residents who are prepared for the digital transition may need to re-scan their TV after the switch. Click here for information on how to rescan your TV.
