Portland man killed in road rage incident over cab ride
01:37 PM PDT on Tuesday, June 3, 2008
A young man from Portland was killed in a road rage attack in California and now his family is in shock.
Witnesses said Nathaniel Ward wasn’t even driving. But he was punched in the temple one time after getting out of a cab and killed.
Police said a near wreck in San Diego traffic set the events in motion. Ward was taking a cab ride on the night of May 24th and a short time after he and friends got out, a man confronted them about a near-wreck with the cab.
Then, the other man, identified as Sam Bonsu, 35, punched Ward and his friend in the face and ran off.
Ward died after one week in the hospital. He was 25 and had just moved to San Diego.
His parents, who still live in the Portland area, were by his side when he died.
“I never thought I would ever have to deal with anything so traumatic," said Tori Robinson, a friend of Ward and his family.
Meantime, Bonsu turned himself in to police on Monday and faces murder charges.
No word on the condition of Ward’s friend who was also punched and fell to the ground, but survived.
