M-80 firecracker explodes in Vancouver girl's hand
08:13 AM PDT on Tuesday, June 3, 2008
VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A 12-year-old Vancouver girl was injured Monday when an M-80 exploded in her hand.
Sgt. Scott Schanaker of the Clark County Sheriff's Office says the illegal firework had been on a dresser next to where the girl was using a computer in her home.
She lit the fuse and headed toward the bathroom to extinguish it when the explosion occurred.
The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, where her condition was listed as stable.
No arrests have been made, but Schanaker says prosecutors will consider filing charges of reckless endangerment against the parents.
