Search and Rescue Crews from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s office were called to Yeon State Park in the Gorge early Sunday morning after a man became disoriented while hiking.
The hiker made contact with rescue crews by cell phone around 6 a.m. Sunday morning after spending the night in the park.
Multnomah County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Gullberg said the hiker was a man in his early thirties who had gone for a day hike on Saturday.
Gullberg said the man had planned to hike to the top of Nesmith Point but reached the point around 6:30 p.m. Saturday and was unable to hike back out before it became dark outside.
After spending the night in the woods, the hiker was reported to be in good condition.
Gullberg said the man had reached a point somewhere near Elowah Falls before becoming disoriented and calling for help from Search and Rescue Crews.
