Two killed in Hwy. 224 crash when car goes down embankment

An early Sunday morning single-car crash about thirty miles east of Estacada killed two people and seriously injured a third.

A motorist passing by discoved the car down the embankment.
Vladimir Romashchenke, 24, of Vancouver was driving a Honda Civic east on Highway 224 when he lost control and drove off the right shoulder. The car went down the embankment and hit a tree which caused it to fall into the highway. The vehicle came to a stop on its passenger side.
Both Romashchenke and his passenger, Vitaliy Maksimenko, 19, were found dead at the scene. The backseat passenger, Mikhail Tihohod, 19, was seriously injured. He was transported by ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University.
Another motorist found the tree across the highway, stopped and found the Civic down the embankment.
Oregon State Police are still investigating the crash.
