Pilot missing after plane crashes near Cove, Oregon
07:30 AM PDT on Thursday, May 29, 2008
COVE, Ore. -- It appears there were no injuries when a single-engine plane crashed near a private airstrip in Eastern Oregon.
Capt. Craig Ward of the Union County Sheriff's Office says investigators have "unconfirmed information" the pilot walked away from Tuesday night's crash.
Emergency responders found the downed aircraft after a search. There were no signs of a pilot or passengers, and no evidence of an injury in the cockpit.
Authorities located the plane's registered owner by running the tail number. The owner said he had sold the plane about a year ago.
Ward says the sheriff's office thinks it knows who piloted the plane, but won't release an identity until it's 100 percent sure.
The incident will be turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration for further review.
