Raft flips in Willamette River, man presumed drowned
08:43 AM PDT on Thursday, May 22, 2008
Investigators think a man drowned in the Willamette River after falling out of an inflatable raft with friends.
The three men were trying to float from Eugene to Portland when their raft overturned just north of Coburg.
Authorities said one man swam to shore, a second was rescued and the third man disappeared.
None of them were wearing life jackets.
Police have not yet released the name of the missing man or his hometown.
Authorities were urging people to stay out of local rivers because they are flowing extremely high due to quick snowmelt in the mountains.
They said there is also a lot of dangerous debris floating in area rivers, including large logs.
