Mannix won't support winner Erickson for Congressional seat race
03:18 PM PDT on Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Oregon’s nastiest campaign is over, but the hard feelings are not.
Kevin Mannix conceded to Mike Erickson this morning in the race for the Republican nomination in the 5th Congressional District seat, but Mannix says he won’t support Erickson in the November general election.

In the last two weeks of the campaign, the Mannix camp accused Erickson of paying for an abortion for a former girlfriend. Erickson is running as an anti abortion candidate.
“From the perspective of being a team player, I’ve been there for the Republican party. But I won’t support a hypocrite,” Mannix told KGW this morning. “Nobody can get me to do that out of loyalty to the party.” Kevin Mannix is a former state Republican Party chairman.

Erickson has denied the charges, and called them dirty politics. He said the election result is a sign that voters have rejected the Mannix campaign style.
Erickson led the race 50 percent to 45 percent.
He’ll now go on to face Democrat Kurt Schrader in the November election. The winner will fill the seat being vacated by the retiring Darlene Hooley.
Mannix said he’ll support Republicans for other offices, including President. He said he’s not sure about whether to run for another elected office, but that he’ll focus on advancing his ballot initiatives.
