Portland Representative Tina Kotek sponsored the bill, requiring all chains with 15 or more stores nationwide to post calorie counts on menus, menu boards and food tags.

She was inspired by a Multnomah County ordinance that passed last year.
“I am thrilled that we were able to pass a strong consensus bill which appeals to public health advocates and the restaurant industry alike,” Kotek said. “The incredible coalition around this bill is a testament to the importance of menu labeling and the dedication of the individuals involved.”
