Officers got a tip Griggs was at a hotel off of I-84 and NE 181st. Because of his history of running from police, Kent said the SERT team was mobilizing to attempt to make the arrest.

Officers on surveillance saw Griggs leave the hotel in a car. Kent said police followed him to another building, but before they could move in Griggs spotted them and took off running.

Kent said a K-9 officer took off after the suspect. The dog caught up with Griggs and tackled him but the man was able to get away.

Police and the K-9 officer caught back up with the 35-year-old a short time later. Kent said officer had to shoot Griggs with a Taser before they could take him into custody him. He was taken to Portland Adventist to be treated for his wounds.

Griggs was still being questioned by police. He was already wanted on an outstanding warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.
