Car theft suspect nabbed in river near Milwaukie

MILWAUKIE -- Deputies nabbed a wet suspect Wednesday morning after the accused car theif jumped into the Willamette River while trying to escape police.
A Clackamas County deputy saw the driver of a 1991 Nissan, Stanza trying to hide his face while at an intersection near Hwy 224 and International Way, in Milwaukie Wednesday morning.
The deputy ran the license plate and the car came back as stolen.

The officer tried to pull over the car but the driver led police on a short chase, then crashed into a concrete barrier on SE McLoughlin Boulevard.
The driver ran and jumped into the river, swimming out about 20 feet as the deputy ordered him at gunpoint to give up.
Deputies arrested 20-year-old Michael Arlan Orren and charged him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempt to elude, reckless driving and criminal mischief.
