Coin robbery

SALEM, Ore. – Two men broke into a Salem coin shop, tasing and handcuffing the owner before ransacking the store.

Salem Police said around noon a friend of the owner called police after he got to the shop on Commercial Street SE and found the doors locked and windows covered.

Detectives said the two men subdued the owner with a taser before handcuffing him, then they covered the windows and spent a good amount of time smashing the display cases before they made off with the loot.

They were probably here 10 to 15 minutes and they said they wanted a belt buckle," Art VanWeerdhuizen said. "The one guy grabbed my gun and the other guy started tasering me. I was pretty stunned"

Van Weerdhuizen said he feared for his life.

" I said, Lord, forgive me all my sins. I'm ready. If it's today, I'm ready. There was nothing I could do. I was handcuffed and laying on my stomach," he explained.
