Weekend weather heats up Oregon & SW Wash.

PORTLAND -- Today's temperatures were expected to be a little bit cooler than Friday and Saturday, but the Portland and Vancouver Metro will still feel the heat.

Today's high is 83 degrees, but there's a chance it could rise and break more record, Meteorologist Jim Donovan said.

On Saturday, Portland hit 92 at the airport and 96 In the valleys on Friday and the record in Portland had been 88.

Chief Meteorologist Matt Zaffino said Saturday's heat broke records across Western Oregon, including the coast.

Salem hit 99. And the heat surpassed 100 along some parts of the Oregon Coast, like Tillamook, which hit 101.

"Sunday will be the most comfortable day of the weekend. Morning clouds will give way to afternoon sun. High temperatures will only reach the lower 80s," KGW Meteorologist Dave Salesky said.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement warning that it's going to heat up quickly in Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon and residents should be prepared.

"After a very prolonged period of abnormally cool Spring weather, the hottest weather of the year will burst into Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon Thursday, then continue over the region into the weekend," the statement said. "This will be the hottest weather since last September."

"With such a rapid transition from temperatures near 60 to temperatures near or above 90, be sure to use caution if out in the heat this week. Drink plenty of fluids, wear light clothing, wear hats and use sunscreen to protect your skin from the sunshine. Seek cooler or air conditioned areas during the heat of the day," the weather statement warned.
