A man attempting to steal beer hit a bicyclist during his getaway Friday night.
It happened in the 6900 block of Northeast Fremont Street.
Portland Police said the suspect, who was later identified as 30-year-old Jeremy Jordon entered the nearby Safeway store to buy some beer.
Employees told police they refused to sell him alcohol and that’s when he attempted to steal the merchandise.
Police said he ran out to his car and drove out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed.
While speeding away, Jordon struck 36-year-old Eric Davidson who was riding his bicycle.
Davidson suffered critical injuries in the crash and was being treated at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.
Police said Jordon did not stop after the crash and then fled the area.
Jordon’s car was impounded and he was arrested and charged with one count each of 2nd degree assault, DUI, reckless driving and felony hit and run.
