Vancouver mom who bit son sentenced

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A Vancouver woman found guilty of assault for biting her son while she allegedly drove drunk was sentenced Thursday to more than a month on a work crew.

Paulette L. Spears was ordered to avoid contact with her children until Child Protective Services approves visits.
The DUI charge was deferred on the condition that Spears get alcohol treatment.
Spears was arrested in late October after she tried to take the phone away from her 8-year-old boy as he called for help during a dangerous drive.

She eventually bit his hand to get him to release the phone, police said. Spears then hung up on dispatchers.
