PORTLAND -- A new frontier has taken over “the bar scene” when it comes to sex with no strings attached. It’s called “Casual Encounters” on Craigslist.

As part of a speical investigation, KGW e-mailed hundreds of people who post online and two people allowed us to interview them, including a man who just wanted to go by his first name of Jon.

Jon is a good-looking guy in his twenties. He prefers finding sex online, as opposed to the bar scene.

“The beauty of it is, there are no expectations," he said. “Sexually, I’m far out there and I need someone far out there too.” To Jon, that could include a ménage trios, role playing, and fantasy situations.

“I’m into girls, but I get a lot of guys e-mailing me,” he said

When finding sex online, he admits some people are not up front about what they look like. “I had a woman who was much heavier than what she told me. I told her it was false advertising and asked her to leave.”

A woman named Sasha also came forward to talk to KGW, but she didn’t want her face on camera. She said she’d "die" if her co-workers found out.

“My private life is my private life and the good thing about Craigslist is that it’s very discreet," she said. Sasha is also in her twenties and is not interested in a lasting relationship.

“I’m not into college boys. I want men who know what they are doing,” she said.

Sasha added that she’s always had positive experiences on Craigslist and said she always meets people in a public place before having sex but she does engage in what could be called “dangerous sex.”

“A lot of my friends don’t like to choke me and I’m really into that," she said.

Police warn against using casual encounters.

“You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into,” said Detective Mary Wheat, with Portland police. “You don’t know what a serial killer looks like. Someone could rob you and harm you.”

In Boston, a man is accused of killing a woman he met on Craigslist.

“I don’t recommend it at all. If you must do this, bring someone along," Wheat advised. “I mean, I know that might change the dynamic of the situation but still.”

Jon said he had a violent encounter once, when a woman was into rough sex.

“She hit me like a guy would hit me. I had a bloody face. She also started biting my chest,” he recalled.

But of all the situations, he’ll never forget meeting a “woman” who turned out to be a man. “I felt misled.”

Jon and Sasha both said they love casual encounters and how it’s an easy and inexpensive way to satisfy their sexual needs.

“Jon never has to buy me dinner or buy me a bottle of wine,” Sasha said.
