ST. HELENS, Ore. -- One person was killed and several injured in a crash between a car and school bus on Highway 30 Wednesday.
It happened near Pollard Drive about five miles north of Scappoose. The highway was blocked in both directions until about 8:00 p.m.
Map: Where the accident happened
According to Oregon State Police, a school bus carrying about 35 K-3rd grade students from Warren Elementary school was heading South on Highway 30 when a 2008 Honda Civic crossed over the center line and hit the bus head-on.
The driver of the Honda, 62-year-old Luis A. Tellado from Scappoose, died at the scene.
The school bus driver, 45-year-old Garland Spooner, and two students, seven-year-old Olivia Bowers and nine-year-old Kaitlin Bond were all taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
One other student was released to his family with minor injuries.
After the crash the remaining students were taken back to school so parents could pick them up.
Oregon State Police troopers were still investigating what caused the driver to cross the center lane.
School counselors were working with the kids still scared by what happened.
