The girlfriend of a man accused of driving his truck through crowds of people at a softball game in Kelso, Wash. last weekend told KGW her boyfriend tried to kill her just before the rampage.

Interview with girlfriend shot 8 times

“He goes, ‘you need to pull over’ so I pulled over and he came back to the passenger door with a rifle and he said, ‘drive’...I leaned over to close the door and he was just like, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam shooting at me and I felt the roof of my mouth fall down,” said Joann Leonzal.

Her boyfriend, 29-year old Aaron Strader, allegedly shot her 8 times before she ran into an apartment complex for help.

Strader then drove through a softball field full of people, rammed a police car, and screamed that he wanted to be shot, according to police.

More: Suspect told police he was on drugs

Leonzal told KGW she knew Strader has a lengthy criminal history but she wanted to give him a chance.

“And this is what we get in return when we try to give somebody a chance and see the better in them and I never thought it would come to where he would actually try to kill me,” she said.

Leonzal said Strader was driven by unwarranted jealousy.

He faces attempted murder charges.
