Driver gets jail for hitting cyclist in Newberg

A man who hit a bicyclist last summer and took off will spend nine months in jail.
John Carothers was sentenced in court Monday.

Police say he hit surgeon Cindy Sharp last year as she was bicycling with a group of friends in Newberg, then sped off.
Sharp needed several surgeries after the accident.
Background: Accused hit-and-run driver arrested
Carothers didn't turn himself in until six days later.
