ALBANY, Ore. -- A three-year-old child narrowly missed getting shot Saturday night, police said.

The child’s father, 27-year-old Abram Delano, was shot multiple times. Suspect Gabriel Martinez, 29, was arrested, according to officers.

No one else was injured during the shooting, but it was a close call for Delano’s three-year-old son, who was sleeping on a couch in the living room.

"Two of the rounds fired by Gabriel Martinez struck the couch that Abram Delano's son was sleeping on and missed hitting him by inches," said Albany Police Captain Eric Carter.

Delano's girlfriend was in the apartment with her one-year-old child and fled to the kitchen.

The suspect and victim knew each other, police said. Delano had been at Martinez's home earlier that evening when the two men got into an argument.

Delano left and returned to his apartment. Later, Martinez went to Delano's apartment and fired approximately five rounds at Delano, police said. The latter was taken to Albany General Hospital and treated for multiple gun shot wounds. His condition was not released.

Police do not know what the argument was about.

Martinez was arrested and lodged on charges of attempted murder, burglary, unlawful use of a firearm, reckless endangerment and assault.
