Home surveillance catches thieves on tape in Hazel Dell

06:53 PM PDT on Friday, May 4, 2007

By CHERYL CALM and kgw.com Staff

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Police in Southwest were looking for some thieves caught on home surveillance cameras.

Steve Anderson said he was asleep in his Hazel Dell home when he was awakened by a noise around 8 a.m. Thursday.

He looked out the window and saw a motorcycle in the bushes at the bottom of his driveway. He went out to investigate --- and discovered it was his motorcycle with a couple thousand dollars of damage. Someone seeing the motorcycle dumped at the side of the road had called police thinking it was an accident.

Watch the KGW report

Anderson has an outdoor security system for his multi-million dollar house on NW Lakeshore Ave. He checked the tape and said he saw a woman and two men brazenly driving right up to his house and into his driveway in broad daylight, then trying to steal his Mercedes, break into his work truck, then finally settling for trying to steal the Motorcycle.

He said you can see them at work - even climbing under the vehicle looking for a hidden key.

Anderson thinks they decided to dump the motorcycle when they got it off the property but then couldn't get it started.

Police have a copy of the video and were working the case.
